Eligibility: The first step taken by the legal profession to be an AoR has to fulfil the criteria and requirements for attempting the exam. First of all, they must have been enrolled in any state bar council for 4 years, and they must have experience as an Advocate for at least 5 years. After that, they have to do a one-year training under a senior AoR (who has practised as an Aor for ten years) as an AoR. After the completion of this one year’s training, the advocate is eligible to appear in the AoR Exam. When the advocate cracks this examination organised by the Supreme court, they must have a registered office within a 10 miles radius of the Supreme court building. After completing all this requirements an Advocate is accepted by the Supreme Court as an Advocate on Record.
Advocate on Record Exam (AoR Exam): Participating in this exam for practising in the top Court of India requires a lot of expertise. That’s why it requires experience in litigation and court practice is a must. Taking this exam and conquering it is not an easy task. This is a 3-hour long examination, which is held between the months of May and June. This exam is conducted by a Board of Examiners. Usually, approximately 500 lawyers attempt this examination, while only 20% of them are able to crack it. Cracking this examination is not easy, there are less than three thousand Advocates on Record in India.
